Volunteer: VA CARES Intern: Southwest RegionFall 2025 | Up to 13 hours/week | Flexible Schedule (Office open: Mon–Fri, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM) As a Virginia CARES Program Intern, students will support the reintegration of formerly incarcerated individuals by assisting with program intake, case management, employment readiness, and administrative coordination. Interns will gain experience in social services, workforce development, and data management while working closely with clients and community partners. Key Responsibilities: Perform initial intake, enrollment, and data entry in the Virginia CARES database Maintain accurate and complete participant files (physical and digital) Provide information, referrals, and general support to program participants Assist with employment counseling, resume building, and job readiness classes Build and maintain relationships with employers and community resources Facilitate job placement efforts and assist clients with employment documentation, transportation, and clothing needs Conduct follow-up with participants and employers to track job retention Support office operations: answering phones, greeting visitors, and preparing reports Attend required trainings and contribute to group sessions and workshops Ideal Candidates: Junior, Senior, or Graduate students in good academic standing Professional, self-motivated, and able to work independently or with a team Strong communication and time management skills Reliable transportation required Interns will be mentored and supervised by Wendy Johnson and must complete People Inc.'s annual compliance trainings.
