Volunteer: Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Intern

Schedule:

Fall 2025 Academic Semester (August – November/December)

Flexible to accommodate course requirements.
Internship hours must fall within office hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Format:
Primarily in-person with some virtual tasks available.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Attend court hearings alongside active CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteers for assigned cases.

Retrieve court orders and supporting documentation from the clerk’s office after hearings.

Deliver court reports and other required paperwork to the clerk’s office as needed.

Organize and maintain the CASA case filing system.

Assist CASA Advocates with case needs or resource coordination.

Respond to CASA program emails and inquiries professionally and in a timely manner.

Distribute court orders and documentation to relevant internal and external stakeholders.

Provide general CASA program information to individuals via phone, email, or in person.

Represent CASA at community events to recruit volunteers (“Advocates”).

Accurately present CASA program details and People Incorporated’s mission to the public.

Qualifications:

Must be 21 years or older

Junior, Senior, or Graduate student in good academic standing

Preferred fields of study: Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Pre-Law

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Strong organizational and time management skills

Professional communication skills (email, phone, in-person)

Reliable personal transportation is required

Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office applications

Completion of Mandatory Reporter Training and CASA Pre-Service Training (provided)

Supervision:

Interns will be directly supervised by CASA Program Coordinator Bri Taylor, located at the satellite office in Culpeper, VA.
Note: The Program Coordinator is not based at the main office in Abingdon, VA. Interns must be comfortable working with remote supervision. Occasional visits to the Culpeper office may be arranged, if desired.
